Fiorentini Family Dentistry will be sponsoring our first annual Give Kids A Smile® (GKAS) event on Friday February 1st, 2019 at our Monroe Township office. Our goal is to provide quality dental care at no charge to underserved children living in Monroe and other surrounding communities in Middlesex County.
What is give kids a smile?
Give Kids A Smile is an annually held event that helps to raise awareness of the epidemic of untreated dental disease. The hope is to increase access to oral health care by providing free, easily accessible dental services to qualifying individuals.
Nearly one in four children under the age of five already has cavities, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Unfortunately, many children do not have access to dental treatment and do not understand how to properly care for their teeth. As a result, these cavities can become large enough to require more extensive work which can lead to pain, discomfort, and future dental phobias. Our goal at Fiorentini Family Dentistry is to provide care for these children and get them on the right track for their future oral health.
Who Participates in Give kids a smile?
We are proud to say that this is the first year that the Give Kids A Smile event has been hosted in Monroe Township to provide free dental care to local children who desperately need it.
The ADA Foundation’s Give Kids A Smile program was launched nationally in 2003 as a way for dentists to join with others in the community to provide dental services to underserved children. Each year, about 350,000 to 400,000 children benefit from more than 1,500 events, all because of the efforts of 40,000 or more annual volunteers nationwide.
How do i sign my child up for the event?
Please call our office to schedule a time to be seen. Due to the high demand, you MUST make an appointment for your child to be seen. There are a limited number of appointments available so call today to reserve your spot!
If you live outside of Middlesex County, it may be more convenient for you to find a participating dentist closer to you. Click here for a list of 2019 New Jersey Participating Locations.
Who Will my child see?
Dependent upon your child's needs, they will see one or more of our of hygienists, dental assistants, or dentists.
What services are provided?
In most cases your child will receive a dental check-up, followed by a cleaning, fluoride treatment or sealants. If you child has decayed teeth, Dr. Fiorentini may provide fillings or perform extractions or other treatment as needed.
Not all services may be able to be provided dependent upon many factors. If you child has severe dental problems, it may not be possible for all his treatment to be completed in one visit. In that case, Dr. Fiorentini may ask you to return another time to complete treatment at no charge. Or, you may be referred to a clinic or agency that will complete treatment.
If your child is in pain or you know he or she has a cavity or other specific dental problem, be sure to mention this when making your appointment.
I have dental insurance and my child sees a dentist regularly, can we still participate in the event?
Give Kids A Smile is meant to help children who cannot otherwise afford to see a dentist. Although we will help everyone that we can, priority is given to those who do not have access to a dentist.
I cannot get my child to the dentist on February 1st, can I schedule an appointment for another day?
Free dental treatment at Fiorentini Family Dentistry through Give Kids A Smile is only provided on Friday February 1st, 2019. Other agencies may provide service on a year-round basis dependent on need.
If you have any other questions, please call our office. We hope to see you at our event!
