Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain Crowns

Fiorentini Family Dentistry is a leading cosmetic dentistry practice offering a range of cosmetic solutions to our patients. Porcelain crowns, also referred to as “caps”, are full coverage restorations that are permanently placed over a tooth to help add stability and strength while preserving or even enhancing aesthetics.

What Is A Porcelain Crown?

A porcelain crown is a tooth shaped cap that is used to help replace teeth that cannot be restored using a composite restoration. They are suggested for patients who have suffered damage to the tooth due to severe decay or tooth fracture and require a solution that is provides greater strength. Porcelain crowns match the shade of teeth to give an aesthetic, natural appearance. Crowns cover the entire tooth above the gumline.

Where Should Porcelain Crowns Be Utilized?

  • To restore a single tooth
  • In a fixed bridge to restore one or more lost teeth
  • Protect teeth with previous root canal treatment
  • In a tooth with a large, failing filling
  • Areas of extreme wear
  • Implant restoration

What Are Porcelain Inlays And Onlays?

Porcelain Inlays and Onlays are custom restorations that are made to fit into the prepared tooth and provide exceptional aesthetics. These type of restorations are recommended for teeth that are missing a large portion of tooth structure due to decay or fracture, but do not require a full coverage crown.

What Is The Difference Between Inlays and Onlays?

Depending on the situation, inlays and onlays can both be fabricated at dental laboratories or in a single visit utilizing our CEREC CAD/CAM technology. Porcelain inlays are used in place of traditional silver or composite fillings when a more durable restoration is required. They are placed into the prepared tooth where a filling would be placed and then permanently cemented into position. Onlays are larger and are also known as “partial crowns.” They cover at least one cusp of the affected tooth and provide additional strength to its chewing surface. Both porcelain inlays and onlays are more durable than traditional bonded composite and provide patients with beautiful aesthetic and lasting results.

Digital Impressions And Same Day Crowns

Fiorentini Family Dentistry utilizes the latest technology in dentistry when treating patients. We are proud to offer our patients same day crowns by CEREC. Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic or CEREC, is a new state-of-the-art method of reconstructing tooth restorations. CEREC uses computer-assisted design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to offer single-day restorations for our patients. This new technology has revolutionized ceramic restorations such as crowns and veneers for patients so that there is no longer a wait between preparing the restoration and finally receiving the finished product. No longer do you need two visits to get a permanent crown, no longer do you need to walk around with a temporary crown any worry that it may fall out. With CEREC, the prepared tooth and the surrounding teeth are scanned into our system where Dr. Fiorentini digitally designs your restoration. The restoration is then milled in-office, custom stained to match your surrounding teeth, and then permanently cemented. These crowns have exceptional strength and aesthetics and are another reason why Fiorentini Family Dentistry is known for their cosmetic dentistry.
